Artwork Requirements For Digitizing

February 1, 2013

Q. I’m planning on having an artist draw a logo to be embroidered on hats and polos. Does the image need to be drawn in any special way to make digitizing easier? Is bigger better? Should the color be chosen later or should I have it done in color?

A. The artwork doesn’t need to be created in any special way, but it should be done in a vector format. If a vector file isn’t possible, then a high resolution .jpeg or .tif is the next best option.  Most artists will not know how to set up the artwork for digitizing to allow for push and pull compensation so your digitizer will edit the design for embroidery. There is no advantage to making the design bigger, and I would have the artist create the design in color.
